Coca-Cola Blak Coming Your Way

Coca-Cola BlakIs it Coke effervescence? Is it coffee essence? Cola maker Coca-Cola would have you believe its both as they prepare an American roll out of Coca-Cola Blak, a ???carbonated fusion beverage??? which blends Coca-Cola, natural flavors and coffee essence into a drink the soda company hopes will pick you up and, in turn, pick up their bottom line.

Coca-Cola sees Coca-Cola Blak as a new must have for energy drink and coffee consumers any time of the day or night. When the beverage debuts April 3, it will be specially formulated to appeal to American tastes. It will come in a resealable, 8-ounce glass contour bottle ???enveloped in sophisticated and stylish graphics???. Nutritional information on the Coca-Cola Blak Web site indicates drinkers will gulp down 45 calories and 12 grams of sugar per bottle. It will be available in both individual bottles and four-packs.

Buzz around the Internet about Coca-Cola Blak produces some relatively interesting reads for those wanting to be in the know. A review over at BevNET.com describes the drink as ???enjoyably sweet and creamy, but the aftertaste is somewhat brutal???. Financial advice site The Motley Fool sees the venture as an attempt by Coke to ???tap into the ravenous coffee generation that Starbucks awakened???. The Chow for Now online column talks a little about the history of other coffee/cola hybrids and the difficulties of ???creating a shelf-stable carbonated beverage???.

Where will I be come April 3? Trying Coca-Cola Blak (if I can find it locally) and posting a review. Check back around that time for more thoughts on this cola/coffee hybrid and more links to commentary and stories around the Web.
