Say Yes With Coffee

According to a recent Yahoo article, Australian researchers believe that caffeine may put people in a better mood, making them more agreeable and open to persuasion. The researchers believe that caffeine helps us to process information and increase how much we openly listen to a persuasive argument.

Those who participated in the study were quizzed about their views on several controversial issues before and after having either the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee or a placebo. In addition to improved mood the study found that “caffeine increases persuasion through instigating systematic processing of the message”.

The study suggests that television advertisers should concentrate their ads during times when viewers are more likely to consume caffeine, such as in the morning. Ironically, too much caffeine may lead to being distracted by “peripheral factors” instead of focusing on the issue at hand. So after a few cups of coffee instead of wanting to buy that cool new car in the television commercial you may be left wanting to meet that hot guy driving the car instead.

Is it possible it’s just because they’re not aggro and aggitated any more?

I might be a *little* testy if I’d been denied my morning coffee in the leadup to tests and only got placebo!!!

Yeah I’m with ya there Sydney, I’d probably be a little testy too if I only got a placebo, testy or asleep in the middle of their experiment.
