Blisscotti
Last weekend I happened to be wandering around SFPride???s street festival, when a woman handed me a free sample of a new kind of ice cream sandwich. Biscotti layered with chocolate surrounded super-creamy mint chip ice cream. I devoured the treat, made a note of the name Blisscotti and went about my business.
A few days later, I was wandering through the freezer section at Whole Foods. The temperature is climbing again, and ice cream was on the menu. A box of Blisscotti caught my eye. This flavor: Creamy Coffee Chip. I didn???t even think about it; into my cart it went. I mean, how can you go wrong: coffee, ice cream, chocolate. I don???t think you could put more delicious things into one food.
I sat down that night to enjoy my little treat. While nibbling away, I read the box. ???Blissfully delicious coffee chip ice cream layered between exquisite almond biscotti and fine European chocolate. Admittedly, my expectations were high after so thoroughly enjoying my free sample.
The first bite I remember thinking ???Umm, this tastes like plastic.??? Not fabulous, but I???ll let that slide. A lot of food ends up absorbing some of the packaging material.
I got beyond the initial flavor of the outer-wrapping, and found that the coffee chip ice cream was spectacular. Unbelievably creamy and smooth, full of coffee chips. Delightful. The chocolate that coated the biscotti was equally delightful. The biscotti weren???t bad, a bit grainy and lacking in definite flavor, but overall ok. Unfortunately, the overall taste was decidedly less than its individual parts. Something about the combination just didn???t work for me. I like FLAVOR, and this was a smidge on the bland side.
I ended up pulling the biscotti off the sandwich, and eating the ice cream with a spoon.
I???d have to declare this coffee treat worth a try, just keep your expectations low.

Thank you! I bought these the other day and tried one. I too, love coffee ice cream and I love biscotti. I was disappointed in these though. I couldn’t pin down the flavor that I detected in the background when I first bit in. I’m not positive it was plastic. My boyfriend, for some unknown reason, thought it tasted like mesquite. Of course, we had BBQ’d earlier that day.
The coffee ice cream was very good, but the entire package just didn’t do it for me.
I suggest trying another brand of ice cream sandwich - Ruby Jewel. www.rubyjeweltreats.net. They have an espresso sandwich with a cinnamon cookie. Extremely good.
