Coca-Cola On The Far Coast
Coca-Cola is no stranger to the coffee business, having already introduced us to Coke Blak, a bottled soft drink of cola infused with coffee. But, the company is going in a radical direction with their new line of products. Coke has recently launched a new brand called Far Coast, which is the soft-drink maker’s attempt to step into the world of hot drinks. Just don’t count on buying these new Coca-Cola products at supermarkets and coffeehouses, the machines that make the drinks are being sold to outlets such as art galleries and hotels.
Coke spent five years working to simplify the types of fancy machines found in many coffeehouses and teashops and usually run by trained baristas. The resulting machine requires that customers keep their orders simple - machines only use one type of milk, for example skim. Also the machines use pods, so there is no measuring out beans. The Far Coast brand offers a menu of a dozen blends including names such as Tahaa and Belegante. Coca-Cola feels that Far Coast will provide high-end hotels and restaurants the opportunity to serve consistently good espresso without additional staff hired as baristas. For now though, if you’re an American it looks like you’ll be needing your passport if you want to try out Coca-Cola’s new Far East brand. At present the company is only launching Far East stores and selling machines in Toronto, Oslo, and Singapore.
