Name That Tea

Feeling creative?  If so maybe you should give this a shot…

There is a new tea which is finally ready to go to market that was developed in Taiwan by researchers 37 years ago.  Here’s the catch - the tea needs a “non-scientific” name.

The Taipei Times reported Monday that the governmental Tea Research and Extension Station is accepting name suggestions for the tea, which during its 18 years of development was named “Taiwan Tea No. 1″  You have until the end of the year to email your name suggestions to the agency at tres202@ttes.gov.tw.  You just might have a pretty good shot, so far the agency has only received two suggestions, both for the same name - “Taiwan Red”.

The tea is reddish in color with a fragrance similar to the most popular oolong variety.  Researchers have also said there is a hint of fruitiness when the tea is served over ice.
