Some Buzz in your Donuts
Posted by Rachel Rubin on A Nice Cuppa.

Can’t get enough caffeine? Last month, molecular scientist Robert Bohannon announced that he has figured out how to caffeinate baked goods without adding any bitter taste. Look for “Buzz Donuts” and “Buzzed Bagels,” which he plans to market. No announcement has been made about where you will be able to find these products yet, but Bohannon has been pitching companies like Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks Corp.
I’m not quite sure why someone would want caffeine in food. There is something associated with the drinking process that makes my caffeine intake satisfying. But some people enjoy the caffeine buzz so much that they are interested in different options, or at least that is what Bohannon thinks. Many have been quick to form opinions since Bohannon made his announcement. Those in favor of a sweet caffeine fix look forward to interesting new products. Those against are worried that combining caffeine and sugar in such high quantities can be bad for our health - not to mention our waistlines.
USA Today posted a video interview with Dr. Robert Bohannon describing the process.
