McDonald’s to Get Into Latte Game

cappuccino.jpgIt seems like the Starbucks chain might soon have a little competition on their hands, by way of McDonald’s of all places.  The folks at Crain’s Chicago Business are reporting that the burger conglomerate is going to start pushing java sometime next year to give Starbucks a run for their money in a big way.  They noted that McDonald’s “plans to sell lattes, cappuccinos and other specialty drinks in all of its 14,000 U.S. restaurants next year. McDonald’s predicts the new drinks will add more than $1 billion a year to sales.”

One billion dollars happens to roughly equal what Starbucks does in a quarter, so if McDonald’s is poised to take away that much of their coffee business, this could prove to be a very interesting fight.

A few locations in Los Angeles have started offering the lattes. Haven’t tried them yet, though.
