As one who roasts coffee at home, I am puzzled how the Starbuck's fans think so highly of the weak brew they serve. I never put cream and sugar in coffee at home but, at Starbucks, I pile it on to mask the mediocre flavor.

Why would you want steamed milk, whipped cream or various syrups with good coffee? Coffee is the most complex beverage in the world. Starbuck's darker roast hides poor quality coffees. Expresso is designed for charring very low grades of coffee, to hide the inferior tastes; and it's a drug delivery device. Buy a jar of No Doz. People who go there have no appreciation for good coffee.

If Starbucks, or anyone else nearby, starts to roast their coffees within a few days of selling it, I'll stop roasting at home which does, after all, take some time. Freshly roasted is the most important criteria for good coffee. Try it if you can find it.
