Would like to visit the tea version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with a tad more influence from National Geographic? Follow the Pied Piper of tea leaves, David Hoffman, through the lush lands of tea where instead of rain drops, tea leaves seem to fall from heaven, as he is filmed by critically acclaimed documentary maker Les Blank.

David Hoffman is our very own Marco Polo, but this time, solely focusing on tea. Les Blank’s subtle eagle eye soaks up the majestic essence of China’s flowing tea gardens. The art of hand crafting tea buds into competition grade oolongs. Beautiful maidens doing the choreography of tea preparation in unison. Interviews with quirky and poetic Norwood Pratt, author of Tea Lovers Treasury, Pratt is suggesting we not argue over which notes of artichoke we can indelibly discern in a lung ching, but to absorb also the history of tea, which is truly a connection through this magic leaf of a liquid archeological time lineage where we are sipping the same elixirs as emperors, enlightened composers, kings and queens!

27tea600.jpgYou will never feel quite the same sipping of cup of tea again. Talk about going green? Hoffman has a bold role in creating sustainable farming techniques, as well as fair trade programs, by introducing unique solutions and you will have to see just how unique for yourself to believe! What has this got to do with the price of tea in China? Find out as you follow Hoffman as he meditates with the monks of Tibet or sips tea with the Dalai Lama.

I beg of the cinema… Did you forget my free ticket to China and the Himalayas? If only I could just run away and munch on tea leaves like a happy caterpillar. Les Blank is the Sir Gielgud of documentaries, Lady Gina Liebrect editing hundreds of hours of footage, which took nearly a decade to set in a bezel, this true emerald jewel of a film on tea. Enjoy!
