Get “In” With Starbucks
The folks at Starbucks have caught Volunteerism Fever, and now you can too. Starbucks and HandsOn Network have joined forces to encourage Americans to pledge just 5 hours of their time this year to support the volunteer organization of their choice. And besides that warm, fuzzy feeling you get for volunteering, you’ll get a free tall cup of brewed coffee to boot. How’s that for good karma?
Here’s how it works:
Visit Starbucks: Customers can join the “I’m In” campaign when visiting their local Starbucks beginning on January 21st. Stop by the “I’m In” pop-up display featuring community pledge cards, pick up the card, and fill it out with your 5 hour commitment to volunteer. Pledge Five: Place the “I’m In” sticker from the pledge card on their lapel, signifying your pledge, and take the card with you as a reminder to keep the effort going. As a thank you, every customer who pledges 5 hours of their own time will receive a complimentary tall cup of brewed coffee.
Track Success:Customers log on to pledge5.starbucks.com to record pledge hours, find local volunteer opportunities via the HandsOn Network, track hours pledged-to-date, and receive updates on the campaign. In conjunction with the in-store campaign, Starbucks new ad campaign features a song called “Grassroots Movement” written by MC Yogi, who was responsible for the popular “Vote 4 Hope” Obama campaign video.

I think the Starbucks pledge 5 campaign is great. It shows Starbucks commitment to trying to help the community. It’s something other corporates should be doing.
I wonder how the current economic environment/downturn will effect corporates getting involved to make a difference with the environment and corporate social responsibility.
It’s great that Starbucks are holding the flag and pushing other corporates to do the same.
Have a read at my post about other CSR initatives.
